Bulletin 7 March 28th – April 8th 2026
Dear Residents
With nineteen years of operational and leadership experience across the organisation, I’m pleased to introduce myself as the new Borough Commander for Tandridge. Throughout my career, I’ve been committed to delivering high‑quality service, building strong partnerships, and supporting teams to perform at their best. I am excited to be taking on this role, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank Inspector Whatley for all her hard work over the years as the previous Borough Commander and wish her all the best in her new role. I’m looking forward to working closely with our staff, partners, and local communities as we continue to deliver effective, professional, and compassionate policing across the Borough Inspector Rob Staplehurst
Tandridge Borough Commander
CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
Our Response Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with since the last Bulletin.
A prolific shoplifter who targeted shops across East Surrey has been sentenced and handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Scott Matthews, 49 (DOB: 20/09/1976), from Sutton, is a prolific thief who targeted shops in Caterham and Reigate between August and October last year.
In January, Matthews pleaded guilty to one count of theft.
At Croydon Crown Court on Wednesday, 18th March, he was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years.
Matthews was also given a CBO which prohibits him from entering Caterham or Reigate under any circumstances.
The order is in effect until 18th March 2028. Breaches of a CBO can lead to a term in prison or a fine.
PC Kev Stimson from our Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Matthews is a persistent offender whose actions have caused a lot of distress to businesses, their staff and members of the public in our community. I hope this outcome and the CBO shows that this behaviour will not be tolerated.
"Swift reporting and collaboration remain key to tackling this type of offending so if you witness an incident of shoplifting, please tell us as soon as possible."
