The introduction of the government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee (NPG) means that every neighbourhood will have a named, contactable police officer in their community, dealing with local issues identified by the team. As part of our commitment to this we have made changes to our website - Home | Surrey Police You can search by town and keep up to date with what's going on in your community by checking the news section or upcoming meetings and events tab. You can also find out who your local officers are by clicking onto on the team.
One of Surrey Police PCSOs, Chris Moyes, attended a Public Services Reception in 10 Downing Street Gardens on 1 July. She said: "It was an honour to represent not only Unison and Surrey Police and be part of the conversation about Neighbourhood Policing." The heat may have been scorching, but the sun was shining in the beautiful gardens and Chris said though she didn't speak to the Prime Minister, she loved his speech about Neighbourhood Policing and sharing the ideas of the future policing with MPs. When asked what her favourite bit about the day was, she said: "I had a few nervous butterflies but I think it has to be knocking on the door of 10 Downing Street and going in. Then speaking to so many different services. I felt proud that a person like me that grew up on a council estate could be in a position of walking through the iconic door. I mean wow". She can confirm she also met Larry, the 10 Downing Street cat, who was trying to catch a cat-nap in the shade!
One of our officers was nominated - alongside her police dog - for the National Police Bravery Awards 2025 and attended the awards ceremony recently. When faced with a man wielding a large knife in a busy high street threatening members of the public including children, PC Barwell with trusty Police Dog Ella at her side didn't hesitate to place them both in harm's way to protect and defend against a dangerous person. As part of the proceedings yesterday, PC Barwell went to Downing Street to meet the Home Secretary before enjoying the glitz and the glam of the awards ceremony with our Chief Constable Tim De Meyer. Police Dog Ella didn't make it as she was taking a well-deserved break from the sun with a pup-sicle but she was pawsitively pleased to have been nominated. Congratulations to both!
