We are appealing for witnesses after a dog was attacked by another dog in #Westcott on Sunday afternoon (25 May).

The dog, a Bichon Frise, has since sadly died as a result of the injuries sustained during that attack and we are keen to trace the owners of the other dog.

The incident happened around 1pm in Westcott Street while the owners of the Bichon Frise were out walking when they came across three dogs and a child.

Two of the dogs were loose while the other one was on an extendable lead but was not wearing a muzzle.

The dog on the lead, described as similar looking to an XL Bully, attacked the Bichon Frise, biting it in the stomach.

The injured dog was taken to an emergency vet, where it later died as a result of the injuries it had suffered.

We are carrying out a number of enquiries in relation to this incident and are really keen to talk to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or any other information which could help us trace the owners of the dog.

Growing up, a catapult was just a forked twig and a bit of elastic...

Now, modern catapults can be used to cause criminal damage, injure people and kill animals.

We tend to get spates of reports of catapult crime - they seem to be a local craze where a whole group of young people get one, but unlike the Rubik's Cube, Tamogotchi or Fidget Spinners, catapults are not toys.

Used responsibly (on private land by a responsible person, with the landowners permission) there may be an element of sport or fun, but there is really no reason to carry one in public.

When you use it to damage property; or intimidate, threaten and assault others; it becomes a weapon. A weapon that shouldn't be in the hands of young people on our streets; and a weapon which we can (and will) use the full extent of our powers to prevent being used.

🔵Does your child own a catapult or similar weapon?

🔵Do you know where it is or what they are doing with it?

🔵Are they taking it out with them without your consent?

🔵Have you noticed a stock of ball bearings appearing around the house, or in their pockets?

🔵Have they managed to get hold of one without you knowing?

If you know or suspect your child has a catapult, please chat to them about using it responsibly.

If you'd rather they didn't have one, you can drop it off in a knife bin at any of our police stations and we will dispose of it for you.
