Cyberstalking - National Stalking Awareness Week 2025

Dear resident,

This week is National Stalking Awareness Week (Tuesday, 22 April – Saturday, 26 April).

The campaign is aimed at raising awareness about stalking and its impact on victim-survivors, their families, and communities.

Cyberstalking is defined as information gathering, unwanted messages (not always threatening), surveillance, unauthorised access to online accounts and spreading misinformation about someone.

These are the words of three women who were subjected to years of stalking by someone remotely.

‘The worst feeling was not knowing what he looked like.’

‘I felt unsafe in my own address.’

‘I feared for my life at times, not knowing what this individual was capable of.’

‘This will stay with me for the rest of my life.’

One in five stalking and harassment offences are categorised as ‘online’ - although we expect this number to be much higher - yet the impact is equally traumatic for victim-survivors and their families.

If something doesn’t feel right, report it.

If you, or someone you know, has experienced two or more incidents of stalking or harassment you can report it to us.

We understand it can be difficult to tell us about what's happened, but we want to hear from you. We take these offences very seriously.
