We have seen an increase in reports of shed break-ins across Surrey this week, and we want to remind you to secure any outbuildings just as you would your home.

First off, check your home insurance covers the contents of any shed, garage or outbuilding from theft. Ensure any security lights or CCTV are in working order, and consider a battery-operated shed alarms.

Next up, take a look at your shed and consider the steps you could take to make it more secure, whether that be securing windows with wire mesh or grills, or investing in a strong padlock with no exposed screws.

And as the weather begins to take a brighter turn, perhaps it could be time to get planting - and what better than ones which can look great and keep your property safe?

Watch our video below on defensive planting and find out how you can protect your garden and property...

Volunteers have built natural barriers to prevent motorised vehicles from damaging the Surrey Hills.

The Drove Road at Ranmore Common, an ancient track on the Wotton Estate, has attracted a small number of people using 4x4s and off-road motorbikes which damage the woodland and disrupt wildlife.

Surrey Choices, a support group for disabled and neurodivergent people, along with charity Surrey Hills Society and members of the off-road driving community, created a number of dead hedges to stop others harming the area.

We were made aware of four reports of arson in #Bookham over the weekend in which three bins and one car were set alight.

Surrey Police and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service attended each incident, and all four fires were safely extinguished. Thankfully nobody was injured.

Borough Commander Inspector James Green said: “Our officers have been hard at work in Bookham over the past few days, conducting house to house enquiries, gathering CCTV footage and obtaining witness statements that will help us identify the persons responsible for these fires.

“I am aware of the concern these reports will cause and would like to reassure the community that we are taking this matter very seriously and will take robust action against those found responsible. If you have any information, no matter how small, I urge you to get in touch with us.”

We would like to speak with anyone with information that can support our investigation to help identify those responsible. We are particularly keen to speak with a group of three teenagers aged between 16 and 17 who were seen nearby.

If you were in the area around Sole Farm Avenue, Post House Lane, East Street, and Leatherhead Road between 11pm and midnight on Saturday, 22 March, or if you have any dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage that could assist us, please contact us quoting reference number PR/45250034223.

If you do not wish to speak to police, you can also contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
