How to keep your van and valuables protected

We have recently seen a rise in van thefts across the county and wanted to share with you some handy tips to help you keep your valuables and livelihood protected. We understand that these kinds of thefts mean that sometimes your business can come to a standstill, creating long-lasting financial impacts on not only your profession but also your personal life.

With some essential protection such as ensuring that your van is fitted with an alarm and/or immobiliser, other useful ways to protect your van can be by installing a tracker as this can help increase the chances of its recovery.

Though thieves come in many shapes and sizes, many are opportunists, so keep your valuables out of sight from the windows with all windows and doors locked. But if you have no other choice to leave your tools within your van overnight, mark them clearly with either your name or your company’s with a paint pen and seal with a clear lacquer spray as this will mean that it is less desirable to steal because it is more difficult for the criminals to sell it on.

When parking up your van, where possible park with the rear or side doors near a wall, bushes, robust railings and in front of CCTV cameras to make accessing your vehicle trickier.

By making some of these changes along with others recommended through Secured By Design, this will not only discourage thieves but also help with the recovery of your property.
