Reporting suspicious activity

We understand there have recently been some security concerns around St. George's Hill Estate in Weybridge following reports of suspicious activity.

On Thursday, 30 January officers received a call from a private security firm at St George’s Hill Estate. They reported that a person had been spotted on a thermal imaging camera hiding in the garden of a property on the estate. Police resources, including a dog unit and a drone, were deployed to search the area but did not locate anyone. No damage or thefts were reported.

Later the same evening, police received a second call reporting a man seen taking photographs of another property on the estate. Officers attended and a dog unit was deployed again, but the man was not located. CCTV was obtained but due to poor lighting it is not suitable for identification purposes. No damage or theft was reported.

Borough Commander Lucy Marriott said: “I appreciate these incidents have been distressing for residents, and I hope the swift police response on the night reassures that we can and do turn out to reports of suspicious activity.

“I want to emphasise that crime rates are relatively low in St George’s Hill ward, and the number of residential burglaries provided per residents is lower than the average in North Surrey. In the last rolling year North Surrey division doubled our ‘solved rate’ for residential burglaries compared to the year previously, and we are committed to continually improving this figure.”

As part of our efforts to reduce the number of burglary offences in Surrey, we’re asking residents to submit any video footage (such as CCTV, dashcam, or smart doorbell footage) and photographs showing suspicious activity to our suspicious activity portal.

The portal is for circumstances where a no crime has been reported, but the suspicious behaviour could potentially be related to a crime such as a burglary or vehicle theft. Every clip informs our understanding of the overall crime picture in Surrey and helps us direct our resources accordingly.

You can find out more and submit footage or images to our suspicious activity portal here.

You can report crime via the online reporting form on our website. In an emergency always call 999.
