Meet The Beat: Meadowbank Café, Dorking Wednesday 19th February @ 11-12:30 👋

Meadowbank Soft Play & Park cafe is located directly in the centre of historic Dorking town, just a few minutes walk from Dorking High Street. We are just in corner of the recreation ground, near M&S car park.

Neighbourhood Teams provide community engagement, targeted foot patrols and collaborative problem solving to tackle the issues that cause the greatest harm in our communities. Teams are made of sergeants, police officers and PCSOs, led by the Borough Commander, with further support provided by other team members - with specialisms in youth engagement, licensing and crime prevention.

We are just over halfway through our national four-week firearms amnesty for Turkish-manufactured top-venting blank firers (TVBFs).

In their original state TVBFs have a fully blocked barrel designed to discharge only blank cartridges, but the four models subject to the amnesty are readily convertible and therefore illegal.

Blow, Ceonic, Ekol, and Retay TVBFs can be handed in at the following police stations across the county before 28 February:

• Guildford Police Station, Margaret Road, Guildford, GU1 4QS (open daily 8am-10pm)

• Staines Police Station, Kingston Road, Staines, TW18 4LQ (open daily 8am-10pm)

• Caterham Police Station, Timber Hill Road, Caterham, CR3 6LD (open daily 8am-10pm)

Have you heard of ‘cuckooing’? Well, much like a cuckoo bird which is known to take over the nests of other birds, cuckooing is where a drug dealer, or a person they might know, exploits a person with vulnerabilities– taking over and using their home to store, sell or use drugs.

Dealers often approach a vulnerable person offering them free drugs to use their home for dealing. In some cases, after providing ‘free’ drugs, they will then force the person to deal for them in order to ‘repay’ their debts.

Criminal gangs are selective about who they target – a lot of victims are lonely, isolated and feel trapped. They are too scared to speak out and get the help they need.

Cuckooing impacts entire communities with knock-on effects of anti-social behaviour, violence and an increase in thefts and burglaries. Sometimes cuckooing goes on for just a few days before the dealers move on, so if you suspect it, report it immediately so we can take action.

You can call us, or if you prefer, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and report 100% anonymously.

Behind Bars: A serial shoplifter who offended whilst already on probation has been sent to prison and given a court fine.

Michael Davis, 40 (DOB:05/09/84), of Hatton Gardens, Mitcham, was arrested and remanded by police after being linked to the following offences:

• Theft of jackets from TK MAXX in Epsom on 6th Jan 2025.

• Theft of sandwiches from Co-Op in Epsom on 9th Dec 2024.

• Theft of confectionery from BP garage in Croydon 6 Nov 2024.

• Theft of sunglasses from Boots in Dorking on 4 Nov 2024.

He was further charged with breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which was put in place by the courts in September last year as well as with an offence of Vehicle Interference on 9 November 2024 in Croydon.

Davis’s CBO order prohibited him from entering any shop which sells goods without a means to pay and from concealing any items within any retail premises.

On Saturday (Feb 15th) he appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to 16 months in prison and given a court fine.

Borough Commander for Epsom and Ewell, Tommy Pearson, said: “Having worked hard to get a CBO order in place for Davis, it meant the team were able to secure a harsher sentence for any further offending by him. I hope this reassures the community that we will not tolerate shoplifting and are working with the legal system to target prolific offenders who blight local businesses.”

The Police Crime Prevention Handbook

This guide contains National Police guidance on crime prevention in various categories.

This handbook is not an exhaustive guide to home security and crime prevention, but it does cover a broad range of subjects and contains up-to-date crime prevention advice.
