Interview - Inspector Matt Walton on BBC Radio Surrey discussing dispersal orders - Staines-upon-Thames

'We are dealing with anti-social behaviour'

Last weekend saw a dispersal order in place for Staines Town Centre between 12pm on Friday, 7 February, and 10pm on Monday, 10 February.

On Wednesday morning, Spelthorne Borough Commander Inspector Matt Walton gave BBC Radio Surrey listeners an overview of the order's impact.

"Over the course of two days where my officers were out and actively enforcing this dispersal order, we saw a total of 17 dispersals issued. We saw a number of others identified as being part of these groups that we can engage with.

"We also saw a couple of arrests in relation to shoplifting and quite a number of stop and searches carried out.

"We didn't see any anti-social behaviour reported to us on the Sunday after our actions on Friday and Saturday."

In the coming weeks, officers will continue to tackle reports of anti-social behaviour, particularly with half-term around the corner. Insp. Walton has urged residents to continue to report any incidents via the usual channels.

"If it's happening, please report it to us. It is the only way that we can build up a picture and tackle it."
