PC Hagen joined the Runnymede Safer Neighbourhood Team for Meet the Beat at Addlestone Community Centre on Saturday and discussed some issues with local residents
A man appeared at court this week after being charged with a number of shoplifting offences in Runnymede, Nirmal Man, 30, 18/10/1994, of Feltham, Hounslow, has been charged with 11 counts of shoplifting.
Last weekend saw a dispersal order in place for Staines Town Centre between 12pm on Friday 7 February and 10pm on Monday 10 February. On Wednesday morning, Spelthorne Borough Commander Inspector Matt Walton gave BBC Radio Surrey listeners an overview of the order's impact - "Over the course of two days where my officers were out and actively enforcing this dispersal order, we saw a total of 17 dispersals issued. We saw a number of others identified as being part of these groups that we can engage with. "We also saw a couple of arrests in relation to shoplifting and quite a number of stop and searches carried out. "We didn't see any anti-social behaviour reported to us on the Sunday after our actions on Friday and Saturday." In the coming weeks, officers will continue to tackle reports of anti-social behaviour, particularly with half-term around the corner. Inspector Walton has urged residents to continue to report any incidents. "If it's happening, please report it to us. It is the only way that we can build up a picture and tackle it."
Surrey Police and Sussex Police have a long history of collaboration, particularly in specialist crime and operations. On BBC Radio Surrey earlier this week, Chief Constable Tim De Meyer explained how the two Forces work together for mutual benefit. "Our collaboration with Sussex has enabled us to provide some very high quality services in respect of firearms and roads policing, which we would not have been able to sustain. "Our collaborated officers will go and help with the policing of Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premiership, but our outstanding policing of the Epsom Derby over the last few years is very substantially attributed to the collaboration that we enjoy with Sussex as well. "It is to mutual benefit. Were we not collaborating in that way, we would have to be looking for savings which would really affect local people in Surrey."
