Last Friday, Surrey’s Volunteer Police Cadets demonstrated extraordinary team spirit and resilience by enduring a chilly night sleeping out at Walton Firs to raise awareness of homelessness. The night included motivational speeches from Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, Chief Officer of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service about her experience of homelessness, and Gemma Johnston from The Hope Hub about how to alleviate homelessness. Volunteer Police Cadet Unit Leader Phil Jebb said, “The sleep out was the first fundraising event of its type for our police cadets. We had no idea how the 28 teenagers would cope with camping out in such difficult conditions, but their behaviour was exemplary throughout the experience. Come the morning, there was a real sense of pride that everyone had made it through the night, and that collectively we had raised over £2,500 for the Hope Hub, which will make a real difference to the homeless in Surrey.” If you, or young person you know, would like to make a real difference in our communities, visit Home | Volunteer Police Cadets or contact us at cadets@surrey.police.uk.
