A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a woman in Ashford on Thursday, 16 January.

Officers were called to an address on Woodthorpe Road at 1.15pm following a report of a concern for safety at the location.

A woman in her 20s and a two-year-old girl were found at the address with very serious injuries.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of officers and paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The child has been taken to hospital for treatment.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The victims and the suspect were known to each other. There is not believed to be any wider risk to the community.

An investigation, led by the Surrey and Sussex Police Major Crime Team, is underway and enquiries remain ongoing.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Kimball Edey said,

“This investigation is in its early stages and a team of specialist officers are working around the clock to gather as much information as possible.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims at this unbelievably difficult time.”
