Bulletin 25 November 21st – December 4th 2024
In the past few weeks a series of burglaries have been reported in Caterham and Warlingham where entry was gained to apartment buildings via both the ground floor and also from upper floor balconies.
Please remember the following:
🛠️ Lock away ladders if they are close to the building and secure screwdrivers when not in use. Keep all tools out of sight and reach of would-be thieves.
🔑 Don’t leave apartment or car keys in view of windows or doors. If a burglar can see it, they can reach it. Consider putting keyless entry fobs for cars into signal blocking pouches or boxes.
💍 Under beds, in wardrobes and bedside tables are the first places a burglar will look for valuables. Think outside the box and consider storing jewellery in false bottom drawers, bookcases, or other less likely places that you think someone would look.
Inspector Lyndsey Whatley Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Inspector
CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
Our Neighbourhood Patrol Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with since the last Bulletin and three Court Results.
Dean White, 35, (11/05/1989) from Croydon, has been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) at Lewes Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 13th November following a shoplifting conviction. The order prevents him from entering any Tesco store in the county of Surrey, and from entering the borough of Tandridge.
Sgt Wayne Stephens from the Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team said, “A lot of policing focuses on people, but our role is just as much about protecting property. We understand what a huge concern offences like shoplifting can have on our business communities, and measures like CBOs can help prominent offenders from going on to commit further crimes and help us safeguard stores and their staff.
“Dean White has been a thorn in the side of local businesses in Tandridge and the successful application of this CBO by the Safer Neighbourhood Team will hopefully go some way to reassuring our business communities that Surrey Police remain committed to tackling shoplifting in our county.”
Breaches of the conditions of a CBO can lead to arrest. The police rely on members of the public to report this information and you can do so by calling 101 (always call 999 in an emergency). Any information you give will be treated confidentially.
If you do not wish to speak to police you can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
* * * Waleed Nasir, 26 (DOB 25/2/1998) of Croydon pleaded guilty to one count of cause inciting a child to engage in sexual activity whilst in a position of trust and three counts of sexual activity with a child whilst in a position of trust. He was sentenced to 9 months in prison, suspended for two years, at Guildford Crown Court on November 18th. He was also ordered to complete rehabilitation activity and 200 hours of unpaid work, as well as being placed on the sex offenders register and given a sexual harm prevention order for seven years. While working as a teacher, Nasir would initially single out his victim to assist him with tasks, which quickly escalated to him taking the victim out in his car where he would engage in sexual activity with her. Nasir’s offending was spotted in April 2023 by vigilant staff at the Travelodge hotel in Whyteleafe, where Nasir had booked a room. Travelodge employees undergo training about the signs of child exploitation and staffs were immediately and rightly concerned when he attempted to check in with a 16-year-old girl. Thinking quickly, they stalled the check in and called police. Nasir was arrested but initially denied any wrongdoing and asked a friend to lie on his behalf. His crimes were proven however, not least by the many sexualised messages he was found to have exchanged with his pupil.
Detective Constable Michael Barker from Surrey Police’s child abuse team, which lead the investigation said: “As a recently qualified teacher, Nasir would have had the most up to date safeguarding training so would undoubtedly have been aware he was committing a serious crime against a vulnerable young person who was under his care. Despite that, Nasir took advantage of his position of authority. “I want to pay tribute to the fast-acting staff at Whyteleafe Travelodge. They did exactly the right thing and have helped prevent any future offending by Nasir. I would ask anyone who is suspicious that child sexual exploitation could be taking place to contact police.

You may recall that three males were arrested for car thefts in the Tandridge area in November 2023. Father and son George Bolton Snr, 37 (DOB: 30/01/1987), and George Bolton Jnr, 22 (DOB: 08/11/2002), teamed up with up with Snr’s brother, Warren Bolton, 33 (02/01/1991) to carry out a spate of keyless vehicle thefts across 18 months from May 2022 to November 2023. The trio’s web of organised crime came to an end after officers discovered incriminating text messages involving George Bolton Jnr and Warren Bolton, discussing which vehicles to target, how to break into keyless vehicles, and videos of their latest steals. Through messaging apps, the group also dropped ‘pins’ on the locations of target cars, as well as using specialised apps to monitor a vehicle’s history and its ‘stolen’ status. Across five policing areas – Surrey, Sussex, Hertfordshire, Essex, West Midlands, and London – the group committed a total of 28 offences, targeting high-value vehicles, typically in the early hours of the morning. Occasionally they were captured on CCTV holding up relay devices around the outside of vehicles and homes to try and break into their target cars, but their faces were covered, and it was only when officers were reviewing mobile phone evidence from a separate case that they were able to identify the Bolton three. The trio all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal motor vehicles and were sentenced to a combined total of 13 years imprisonment between them when they appeared at Reading Crown Court on Friday, 22 November. George Mark Bolton, 22, of Roman Road, Essex, was sentenced to a total of three years and two months in jail. His father, George Thomas Bolton Snr, 37, of Chipstead Valley Road, Croydon, was sentenced to three years and five months in prison. And Warren Bolton, 33, of Chipstead Valley Road, Croydon, who also pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and Class B drugs and was sentenced to seven years and two months behind bars. Investigating Officer, DC Arun Sharma, said: “The incriminating evidence was stacked up against the Boltons, and their blasé communication with fellow offenders shows their lack of compassion or consideration towards the victims they deprived of their vehicles. “This investigation and evidence gathered allows us to build an even bigger picture of organised crime groups throughout Surrey, and we are glad these three offenders have been brought to justice – I hope this serves as a message that vehicle crime will never be tolerated.”
