Bulletin 23   October 24th – November 6th 2024

Dear Residents

Burglars are often opportunistic thieves who prey on houses and flats. They seek out any opening that they can take advantage of, specifically doors and windows that are left open or unlocked or are easy to force. Anything of value that they might spot through a window will only spur them on. But it really doesn’t take much to deter these thieves – just smart thinking.

Burglar facts

  • Burglars target homes that they think will contain valuables. A sure giveaway is leaving packaging from expensive items outside your front door
  • Burglars often look for homes with windows or doors left open or with vulnerable features that they can exploit.
  • Burglars are aware of the times when someone is expected to be away from their house such as during the school run or holidays
  • Burglars typically do not want to be seen or heard and if they feel that they would be noticed by a neighbour or passer-by then they are more likely to feel exposed and may move on to find somewhere else to burgle
  • Burglars often choose a home because they’ve spotted a specific vehicle, motorcycle or bicycle they want to steal – and the keys are more than likely to be inside the residence
  • Sheds and garages are often vulnerable as they are not that secure and contain tools which the burglar can use to assist them to gain entry to a home
  • It’s a fact that many burglars return to homes that they’ve previously burgled because the homeowner failed to upgrade security following the first burglary. They sometimes return to an area to try to burgle a nearby home that they spotted while committing a previous break in. Even more reason for you to ensure you keep your home as safe as houses

    CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Our Neighbourhood Patrol Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with since the last Bulletin .

There were  25  Arrests in the period October 22nd  to November 3rd     : Domestic Abuse / Violent Domestic Abuse 8  , , Prescribed Limit 3  , Child at Risk  4 , Drunk/Drug in Charge 1 , Violent Crime Public Place 1  ,Violent Crime Other 2,  Domestic Incident 1, Hate/Diversity Incident 1, Assault on Police 1, Assault 1, Breach of Court Imposed Bail 2.

On October 26th following an altercation in a pub in Warlingham a male drove off in his car and a short time later was stopped by officers. The male failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for this, criminal damage and assault, and driving without insurance.

On November 1st a pram was reported as missing from a garden centre but traced to an address in Caterham when the victim researched Facebook Marketplace. Against advice he went to the address and he and another male were assaulted by the person selling the pram.  The suspect was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, actual bodily harm, and criminal damage to the pram and on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Driving whilst under the influence of drugs is unfortunately a risk many people are willing to take. Thankfully members of Surrey Police's Casualty Reduction unit are always patrolling with this problem in mind.

Recently our colleagues, who are part of this unit, were alerted to an individual driving whilst disqualified. Things became more unpleasant when the drugs wipe performed at the roadside indicated a positive result for cocaine.

The driver was arrested and has now been charged

On Friday 25th of October Tandridge Beat's PCSO Pilbrow, visited residents at Le Personne Homes in Caterham.

PCSO Pilbrow met with many of the residents of the community to talk about crime prevention and listen to any concerns they had. Offering them a range of advice and guidance on topics such as safety, and support that we can offer them.

Thank you to Le Personne Homes for the warm welcome they gave PCSO Pilbrow.

If your area is NOT referred to below it is because we have not been informed of the crime or it has not been affected by reported crime in the categories below. Feedback from you will help to achieve the most appropriate circulation of information.
