Spelthorne residents share their views on crime and policing in their communities as roadshow returns

Shoplifting, burglary and police visibility were among the top issues for residents when the Policing Your Community roadshow was held in Spelthorne last night.

Just under 60 people joined Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Ellie Vesey-Thompson, Chief Constable Tim De Meyer and Borough Commander Matt Walton to discuss the crime and policing priorities for their communities.

The evening began with updates about Surrey Police, and Insp Walton shared some recent successes in Spelthorne, including a ‘hotspot policing’ operation focusing specifically on Staines and Sunbury Cross.

The inspector also revealed that his team is identifying more shoplifters, with detection rates rising by 50 per cent, and encouraged anyone affected by shoplifting to continue reporting offences to the Force on 101, digital 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.

Questions were asked on a range of topics, including:

🔴 How policing resources are prioritised in Surrey

🔴 Crime rates in Spelthorne compared with the rest of the county

🔴 Car meets in Sunbury Cross

🔴 Burglary

🔴 Shoplifting and anti-social behaviour in Ashford

We’d like to thank all those who joined the team at the Spelthorne Borough Council offices in Knowle Green.

Policing Your Community will return to Therfield School in Leatherhead, Mole Valley borough, on Tuesday, October 22 between 6.30pm and 8pm.
