Tool Thefts

Tool Thefts from Vans

There have been many reports of thefts of tools from vans within the Surrey Heath area.

Police are actively patrolling this area, however, below are some further tips to help protect yourself from this type of crime.

  • Where possible, avoid leaving tools in vehicles overnight. If this is not possible, ensure vehicles are fitted with an alarm and immobiliser.
  •

  • If parking your van in a car park, try to park in a way which makes your vehicle more difficult to reach for example next to a wall.
  •

  • Keep a property list detailing the make, model, serial number and description of your tools.
  •

  • Take photos of your tools which will help with identification if they are found.
  •

  • Forensically mark your tools (UV pens are helpful with this or look out for local police tool marking events)
  •

An online portal is now available to member of the public to report suspicious activity. Please visit

www.surrey.police.uk and click on the suspicious activity portal for further information.

If you see someone acting suspiciously near to a van or tampering with

a van at the time, call us on 999 immediately and provide as much

    detail as you can.
