Bulletin 15   July 4th – July 17th 2024

Dear Residents

As the summer holidays are beginning here are a few thoughts for you.

  • Lock windows and doors when leaving home, even for a short while. If you do not and you get burgled, your home insurance could be invalidated because you left your home insecure.
  • We do not want you to overheat but, if you have windows open due to high temperatures in the day or night, don't keep keys or valuables within sight or reach.
  • How much do you share online? Think about how public your profile is before posting your hour-by-hour holiday highlight reels when you are away from home. How much do you trust your online 'friends'? Up your security settings, consider removing those people you have not spoken to in over a decade and cannot really remember why you were friends in the first place, and enjoy a summer holiday social media detox.
  • Doing a spot of DIY? Lock away ladders and tools after use so they cannot be stolen or used to break into your home.
  • Even the smallest pieces of evidence can build a bigger intelligence picture. Got some footage or images of suspicious behaviour that you think we should know about? Submit it to be reviewed through our  suspicious activity portal  https://surrey.police.uk/suspiciousactivityportal
  • Good neighbours are worth their weight in gold. If you like and trust your neighbour, ask them to keep an eye on your home and pop round on a regular basis to water plants and take in deliveries and post. If you do not like your neighbours, time to start buttering up any local friends or family who can visit instead…
  •  Inspector Lyndsey Whatley

    Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Inspector

    CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Our Neighbourhood Patrol Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with since the last Bulletin.

There were 24   Arrests in the period June 30th to July 15th      : Domestic Abuse / Violent Domestic Abuse 5, Violent Crime Other 1, Violent Crime Public Place 2, Prescribed Limit Offence 4, Sexual Offence 2, Offensive Weapon 3, Crime Other 2, ASB Nuisance 1, Child at Risk 1, Theft 1, Criminal Damage 1, and Drink/Drug in Charge 1.

“What a waste!” some might say but if you’re under 18, it’s against the law:

    • for someone to sell you alcohol

    • to buy or try to buy alcohol

    • for an adult to buy or try to buy alcohol for you

    • to drink alcohol in licensed premises (such as a pub or restaurant)

Officers were recently conducting their regular patrols at the Surrey National Golf course when and had cause to seize several bottles of alcohol from a group of 14-15 year olds.

There are good reasons why buying alcohol is illegal for under-18s. Alcohol can be harmful to children and young people, with health risks including acute alcohol poisoning, an increased risk of becoming involved in violence, and damage to still developing organs like the brain and liver, not to mention the ASB that often arises as a result of their intoxication.

PC Carmen High and PC Kirstyn Donovan-Baker who are in our Neighbourhood Patrol Team recently visited Woodlands Preschool for their 'community heroes' session. The children got to ask questions, see the uniforms, equipment and police car.

Our officers got some lovely feedback and we are glad that the children had fun and informative experience learning about what we get up to on a day to day!

In Copthorne on July 6th a female was arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit for alcohol.

On July 9th in Caterham on the Hill a male was arrested for shoplifting and assault on an Emergency Worker.

On July 12th in Caterham a female driver was stopped for exceeding the speed limit. She was a disqualified driver, driving without insurance and tested positive for Cocaine and Cannabis.

ON July 17th in Newchapel a male driver was arrested for driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and driving over the prescribed limit.
