Bulletin 3   January 25th – February 7th 2024

Dear Residents

A pair of tool thieves were arrested after they broke into a van in Caterham on Friday 26th January.

The suspects were spotted by a member of the public at around 10.24am drilling a hole into the side of a van parked on Stafford Road.

A suspicious vehicle was later found in a construction yard in Purley Road and stopped by police.

The car was searched by officers and a number of branded tools in cases were found in the floor space. A drill and screwdriver were found in the front passenger foot well and a burner phone was discovered on the front passenger seat.

The driver was arrested at the scene for going equipped, theft from a motor vehicle, fraudulent number plate and driving without insurance. The passenger was arrested for going equipped and theft from a motor vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, but this is a good result as part of work to tackle tool thefts in Surrey. It is a great example of team working and I would like to commend those involved for their speedy response which led to the arrests and the recovery of stolen tools believed to be from a number of offences.

Inspector Lyndsey Whatley

Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Inspector

Feedback suggests that Anti-social driving and speeding is one of the top issues affecting residents across the Borough, and indeed the force.

Whilst local officers cannot spend all day dealing with just this type of offence, we have specialist teams who deal with this as a matter of course.

So in the spirit of listening to the public and trying to keep you pleased, a SORN vehicle was stopped for speeding on the B269 Limpsfield Road, the driver was reported and the vehicle was duly seized!

 --------------------------------------------------

On January 27th a male was arrested for drink driving after crashing into a police car which had all its lights on at the scene of an incident in Godstone.

On January 27th at Caterham on The Hill a young male was arrested for public order offences and on suspicion of theft from a shop.

On February 7th a driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, driving without insurance and driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition,
